First sensations
- After attachment placement or changing aligners, you may feel pressure on your teeth.
- This feeling may intensify on the second day, especially with hard food.
- For 2 to 4 days, it is recommended to avoid hard and rigid foods.
If the soft tissues become irritated
- Attachments may rub the inner cheeks and lips. In this case, try to wear the aligners as long as possible to protect the mucosa.
- If a sore appears, the clinic leaflet suggests 0.05% chlorhexidine and Gengigel 3 times a day until healing.
How to wear aligners
- For successful treatment, aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours a day.
- Always keep removed trays in their individual container.
- Change aligners according to the schedule given by your orthodontist.
- Keep previous trays in small bags in case the current pair is lost.
- Remove aligners before eating or drinking to avoid staining.
What to avoid so attachments do not come off
- Hard foods such as nuts, chips, croutons, caramel, brittle, and similar items.
- Sticky foods such as chewing gum, nougat, caramel, and chewy candy.
- Biting large pieces of food with the front teeth.
- Staining foods and beverages.
- Eat in small pieces.
Hygiene and aligner care
- After meals, use a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss or superfloss, mouthwash, and an irrigator.
- Use a soft toothbrush without toothpaste to clean the aligners.
- When away from home, rinsing the trays with running water before putting them back in is acceptable.
- For deeper cleaning, specialized products such as Corega cleaning tablets may be used.
When to contact the clinic
- An attachment has come off.
- There is acute pain in one of the teeth.
- A sore on the mucosa does not heal for a long time.
